Well on the 11th of June this year was the Bird Club's annual Stork Festival or Storchenfest. This year it wasn't the best weather, but we didn't have any rain so it was still a success. We have 3 baby storks this year and they just start flying so they will soon be gone. The baby storks will leave at the end of July, first part of August. Their poor exhausted parents will leave at the end of August, first part of September and then they will be back again in February.
At our festival we served grilled Bratwurst and Steaks, compliments from our professional chef, Markus Zecher. Markus is the son from our friends Rosi and Günther and he really is a professional chef so we are very lucky to have him help us.
In addition to the hot food, we served beer and applewine. The applewine is provided by the birdclub. They grow appletrees on our birdclub land, pick all the apples themselves, press them and then let it sit for the year until it becomes applewine. Frankfurt is famous for applewine. I personally find it very sour and will stick to regular white and red wine from grapes.
We also sold cake by the slice. All of our cakes were made by local women from our area and they always out do themselves in how the cakes look and taste. This year we had 28 cakes and sold just about every slice.
Please enjoy our pictures of the Storchenfest 2009.

The man in the yellow jacket brought a display of Fire Salamanders. It was very interesting for all the kids and many adults.
And our guests of honor. Notice that their beaks are black. That is how you can tell that they are the babies and not the parents. The parents have orange or red beaks. I have not been able to find out which happens first, they start to fly or the beaks turn orange.
Thanks for checking out this story and we hope you enjoyed it.
